Artist's Comments

This will be a cover image for my comic project; Artifact. I needed it to represent a lot of things that will go on in the first collection of issues, but wanted a graceful image; something uncluttered, but heavily symbolic.

The image features my character, Jette Porter, and is taken from Alphonse Mucha's The Feather.

A texture from cgtextures.com was used, everything else was digitally hand painted from scratch. Completed at approx. 50 hours of work.

Oh wow, I like that a lot! I like the spaceships (?) at the top. My only comment would be that the text gets a little lost in there. Maybe give it a bit of a thicker line? Etiehr way, really neat work.

Thank yew. You're right about the text, but I eventually decided to just leave it this way 'cause I'd been working on it for, like, six hours. Ultimately, I put preference with it looking good over legibility...

The spaceships (!) were a lot of fun to do. They originally had little nebulae behind them, but it was too busy so I simplified it.

This is fantastic. I like the added touch of the handprints at the top!
:iconsincerely:
So glad you like them! I had fights with people early on in the project over the black logo/fingerprints. They are absolutely essential.

Goddam! That is one awesome picture! Seriously, damn near perfect! The best thing I've seen of yours on this site so far, just wow. Only one suggestion, touch up that gun a little. I would suggest you use value rather than line to suggest that plane change... But seriously, wow, awesome work!

Isn't it funny when people's signatures are longer than their comments?
:iconsincerely:
I also keep thinking I should've given the gun a slightly more brownish cast. It's the only gray thing in the picture...
:iconricey:
Yeah good point, it would at least be reflecting some brown light at us so a little brown tint would look nice.

inspiration is the art of not-caring-what-other-people-think.

I've always had a soft spot for clocks as a symbol (High Noon!), but I wanted to push it. Old watches, one with no face, all telling different times. That's a nice symbol .
